“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily” – Zig Ziglar

So what the hell is motivation anyway?

Inspiration can come from many places, and when it strikes, it ignites a fire that is hard to put out, but more often than not, this motivation leaves just as quickly as it came.

For most of us, motivation doesn’t happen like it does in the movies, where the hero suddenly realizes his life purpose, becomes so motivated, that nothing can stop him from overcoming all the odds. That’s just not realistic.

We have to seek out our motivation, not wait for it to come along. And its not something you can do just once. There is no one and done here.

Motivation is like eating, you have to do it everyday. As food is fuel for our bodies, inspiration is fuel for our dreams.

Most importantly, motivation is all about ACTION. No matter how you get to the tipping point, it means nothing unless you actually do something.

Knowledge only becomes power when you take the steps to put it to use.

So simply put, motivation is a feeling that calls you to action.

We can start of the motivation process with a couple of my favorite videos.

The first video is from RSA Animate. It illustrates a lecture by Dan Pink on what really motivates us as humans at home and in the workplace. It really gets down to the basics of what motivation is.

The second video is one of my all time favorites. It’s called the “Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch. This is a truly inspirational video as Randy talks about how to achieve all your hopes and dreams. It ended up being his last lecture as he succumbed to a long hard fought battle with cancer but the message he has left is truly extraordinary.

Yes these clips are long but remember, motivation is all about action, so DO IT!
